The old pre- independent road to Kuala Lipis was via Kuala Kubu Bharu. It passes through the "Gap", through the winding path across the mountain. Then, it came down to the nearest town, Teras.
The road was constructed in the late 1800, using human power. It was using the Macadam construction method and seem to last longer that the present asphalt road.
To follow the old road, turn left at the junction about 5 km after Bentong. The road was built on the bank of Bentong river, thus it is slightly windy.
It is a soothing drive in the shade of tropicl green.
The Chinese temple was recently built, located about 10 km from Raub. The basin of the river Bilut is filled up with Durian Orchid. The Bilut river is suitale for picnic.
Teras was doing well in the 60s and early 70s. The road was the only passage to Kuala Lumpur from Raub and Kuala Lipis. The people from Kelantan would take the train to Kuala Lipis, then a bus from Kuala Lipis to Kuala Lumpur.
The shops are the traditional building using the Chinese architecture, making the maximum use of the ground brick. The upper floor are constructed from wooden structure.
You can see, the pillars are made from solid laid bricks, the floor beams are from strong matured wood. It is unfortunate, most of the shops are abandoned.
